The short answer is yes – a term deposit is, indeed, an asset. Regardless that the funds are locked away for a fixed period, when it comes to the balance sheet, it’s considered an asset.

The current accounts and savings Bank accounts also known as demand deposits are low cost deposits since there is no interest payable on current account and a very nominal interest payable in Savings bank account. Individual banks decide the interest rate payable on Savings Bank account now.

Is a rent deposit an asset?

The amount of the security deposit is refundable to the tenant, if the rental unit remains in its present condition. Since the security deposit is refundable (and the tenant intends to comply with the specified conditions) the tenant that paid the security deposit will report the amount as an asset.
